Going On a Journey

A few weeks ago, I picked up Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. It's a world-renowned program that Cameron devised from her years of teaching. She helps people who want to write and to be creative to unblock. I've read her introduction and I could relate with some of it. I have felt broken as a writer for some time, that I can't access my words. So in 2010, I'm beginning a regimen to get myself in optimum shape. I'm going to be completing Cameron's twelve-week program, write from The Daily Writer, and read books that will help my writing life and my mental and spiritual outlook. The first book I am going to be finishing is Cameron's other book The Writing Diet. After that, I'll work on finishing A New Earth and start on others, including Tolle's The Power of Now, Goldberg's Thunder and Lightning, and Linn's Soul Coaching. I am compiling a list of 100 books that I will be reading in 2010. To further encourage my writing, I'm taking part in [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout and completing 250k words.

Is there anybody out there who is making similar plans for 2010? I would love to have some working partners in this. :D

I think I'm going to make the pledge for 250 K, as it looks like the best way for me to complete my projects I've piled up.

*hugs*

This sounds cool to me. I just signed up at [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout. They said they didn't want people signing up on a whim, but here I am, signing up on a whim. I really, really want to explore creativity and be more productive this year, though. It's something I was planning to do anyway, and having the type of support (or maybe even better?) than one gets during NaNoWriMo time might be just what I need.

I made the MPP pledge for 250K.

That book you mentioned also sounds really interesting. I may end up picking it up. Is it a specifically Christian thing? I'm willing to give anything a try; I'd just like to know before I buy. :-) [I'm an atheist.]

I am compiling a list of 100 books that I will be reading in 2010.

I love this idea, too! Do you mind if steal it? I've done the 50 book challenge on LJ before (done terribly). I always have so many books I want to read, but I am easily sidetracked by the new!pretty! and often set down a book I started reading to start something else. I used to read so much, too, and now seem to read LJ or other blogs or email a lot more than I read books. :-) 100 books might be unrealistic for me, but not in my pre-internet days. Maybe if I had a list and focused on actually finishing the books I start, unless they really suck, I'll do a lot better.

It's okay. You're just under the wire. They're supposed to be adding people to the comm on the 30th. I made sure to sign up right when they opened because I missed last year! D: Just by a day. I wanted to sign up on the 1st and it was too late. :(

Support can be very helpful. You have people who are going through the same thing you are. Or, at the very least, are sympathetic.

It's not just a Christian thing, no. It relies on spirituality, but Cameron says that it doesn't matter if you believe in it or not; the results still come. If I were you, I would look through the book and see if her tone is acceptable to you.

Oh, please! :D It's not like I have a patent on that idea. It's been around for a while. There might even be a comm for that. I've seen comms for that before. There are also plenty of reading challenges out there. There are some here and here specifically. And even some more. I found a really great list of challenges last year, but I've failed to locate such a thing right now. But, if you are interested, this gives you a place to start. I have so many partially read books, too. :( I start reading and...yeah. Just like that. [livejournal.com profile] geonncannon astounds me with his ability to post regularly on Livejournal, write lengthy posts of all kinds, write long stories, and read 100 books. I am still trying to find his secret.

I couldn't find the book at Barnes & Noble today, but Amazon has the first chapter on their site. The author mentions "the creator" and "God" in the first couple of paragraphs, so that sounds Judeo-Christian to me--religious-y. heh That doesn't mean that I might not find it helpful, though. I haven't read very far in the chapter yet. :-)

ut Cameron says that it doesn't matter if you believe in it or not; the results still come. If I were you,

I find this intriguing. :-) ETA: Some of these challenges look very interesting. Way cool! :-)

Thanks for all the links.

Cameron herself seems spiritual, but it's not the kind where it is shoved down your throat. The only thing I think she's asking of her reader is to try to believe in something larger than themselves; however, if they can't do that, that's okay too.

So far, I've read all the introduction stuff. Then she breaks the information out by weeks. She recommends to review those in the Sunday of the week. I'm starting on the first, so my first day will be Thursday.

You're welcome!

Yeah, I can't do that. hehe

Thanks for the info. :-) I ended up buying a different book at the bookstore, but I have this one on my list to buy soon, so I'll make a decision about it later. It does look intriguing, though.
